Patients Say

Positives

  • Patients receiving topiramate plus a greater occipital nerve block had even larger month-3 monthly migraine-day reductions (-9.6 vs -7.3 days on topiramate alone), suggesting combination therapy may benefit Long COVID patients with overlapping occipital neuralgia PubMed.

  • A patient on Reddit with occipital neuralgia from COVID reported they tried topiramate as part of their migraine prevention stack Reddit.

Negatives

  • Patient reports across Long COVID forums describe mixed responses, with tolerability frequently dictating whether anyone stays on it long enough to see preventive benefit Reddit.

Hurdles & Side Effects

  • Adverse effects are most pronounced in the first 2 months of titration and include cognitive slowing (the well-known “dopamax” effect), paresthesia, loss of appetite, and fatigue — the same symptoms many Long COVID patients are already trying to manage PubMed.

Immediately stopped my full body tremors

Chronic Illnesses: Long COVID
Symptoms Treated: Tremors - Complete recovery
Side Effects Experienced: None

Internal tremors began soon after my initial covid infection March 4th, 2020. They stayed that way until November 2022 when I awoke to my hands shaking then my entire body. A heartless careless neurologist prescribed Clonopin (basically heroin) which did absolutely nothing. It wasn’t until I moved to Florida in August 2023 that I was given a proper medication by a physician that actually listened to me. She was AMAZING! I moved back to California in 2024 and my current physician has kept this treatment going.
