Patients Say

Positives

  • One patient on daily micro-dose troches from the Joyous program said they “made my brain fog non-existent” and that their “brain hasn’t been this clear in years” Reddit.

  • After nearly a year of twice-weekly sublingual doses, one patient reported feeling “75% recovered,” with improvements in POTS, fatigue, and migraines Reddit.

  • Several forum members described each infusion as a “break-through moment,” lifting ME/CFS-style cognitive fog and pain without worsening post-exertional malaise Health Rising.

  • One Health Rising case report credited 800 mg infusions with cutting chronic-pain scores from 8/10 to 2–3 for weeks and “saving my life” in severe CFS Health Rising.

Negatives

  • One long-COVID poster warned that “ketamine didn’t do ANYTHING for my LC symptoms—only depression,” noting they still lacked smell and taste Reddit.

  • One ME/CFS user reported worse brain fog, memory lapses, and insomnia for up to 24 hours after each dose Health Rising.

  • Twice-weekly IV trips left one patient “atrociously unwell” with rolling crashes despite mood improvements Health Rising.

  • A long-term oral user (200 mg weekly) paused therapy after developing new cognitive problems and persistent fog Reddit.

Hurdles & Side Effects

  • Clinics commonly charge about $2,250 for a six-infusion starter series (roughly $375 each) and require cash or financing Reddit.

  • Severe exertion intolerance makes the 2-hour round-trip to infusion centers—and the need for a driver—unmanageable for some patients Health Rising.

  • Acute effects patients mentioned include dissociation, vivid dreams, blood-pressure spikes, nausea, and a 24-hour “out-of-sorts” hangover Health Rising.

  • Feeling “too good” after treatment can mask limits, and over-doing activity afterward often triggered post-exertional malaise Reddit.

Ketamine Sublingual Treatments

Chronic Illnesses: MCAS
Symptoms Treated: Chronic Pain - Moderate improvement - <24 hours

I have been using ketamine sublingually since 2019. It is prescribed by my pain management physician. It is not covered by my insurance. I pay $400 per month to have it compounded at a specialty pharmacy. I find it to be a very effective treatment for my pain however it is short acting. I currently use it 6-12 times per day. I like that it is non-addictive and I can not take it for a week and other than increased pain I have no issues. I have had great success with ketamine therapy.

Ketamine Infusion

Chronic Illnesses: Long COVID
Symptoms Treated: Brain Fog - Moderate improvement Exercise Intolerance - Moderate improvement Ptsd - Better short time

Was perhaps a mildly therapeutic experience but it did nothing substantial to help me. You also feel quite strange when you are on ketamine in a sterile medical setting with people walking in and out.

Helped my mood but the hangovers were tough

Chronic Illnesses: Long COVID
Symptoms Treated: Fatigue - Moderate improvement Dysautonomia - Moderate improvement Depression - Better long time
Side Effects Experienced: Hangover Dizziness

I did 6 sessions of IV ketamine spaced out over about 1.5 months. It wasn't instantaneous, but I noticed a gradual improvement in my mood throughout treatment. Unfortunately, I had bad hangovers following most of my sessions. I found myself more or less couch-bound for the rest of the day after every session and felt sick the following day. I worked with my providers to adjust the dosage, change my eating habits, and experiment with adding scopolamine. That helped, but I found the 12-18 hours after a session mostly unpleasant. I didn't notice any changes or improvements to my other Long COVID symptoms from the ketamine as some people claim, but neurological symptoms (e.g., brain fog and memory issues) have never been a significant part of my Long COVID.
